† Sohma Akito is the "God" of the cursed members of the Sohma Family. Though female by birth, her mother, Ren, ordered that she be brought up as a man to better suit the role she would later take up as Head of the Sohma Family. In reality, her mother had been jealous of the attention she was being gifted with. This jealousy caused her mother to treat her badly, especially after Akira Sohma's death, and this, combined with the burden of being the Zodiac God as her father wished for her to be, shaped Akito into a hateful, selfish, and possessive adult. Though she plays the role of a confident and powerful Head beautifully, deep down, Akito is plagued by insecurities and fears she would rather dismiss with deep denial. Even in the face of cold hard proof that the bonds between God and Zodiacs are failing, especially in the face of things from the Outside World, Akito places her blind faith that the curse would not fail her. Out of all the Zodiacs, only Hatori, Ayame, Shigure and Kureno know of her true gender. She holds Shigure and Kureno closest to her heart and genuinely cares (though it shows in the strangest manner) for her zodiacs. [Akito was taken from volume 20, shortly before meeting with Tohru] |
